Americans Becoming America: Without Black and White People explores how society is poisoned by a persistent lie that says America has “black” and “white” people. In reality, we are pre-fixed ethnic groups struggling for harmony while stumbling over color identifications foisted on us by a callous history. My colleagues in the media are complicit in perpetuating the myth that “black” and “white” people exist. I have never met a “black” or “white” person. Have you?
The Catholic Church’s Papal Bull of 1452 officially declared that black lives don’t matter . . . Non-Christians on the African continent could be sold and owned “in perpetuity.”
Historically “white” meant privilege and power. Many descendants of American slaves embraced the term “black” as a call for change. “Black” for them was a far cry from King Louis XIV’s Code noir or Thomas Jefferson’s supposedly “feeble-minded slaves.”
Americans will realize the terms “black” and “white” keep people from seeing each other for who they really are -- not black, not white Americans but Peruvian-Americans, Kenyan-Americans, British-Americans, African-Americans and other prefix Americans.
